TEST TUBE BABY
IVF (INTERFLITE)
In vitro fertilization is an assisted reproductive technique preferred by infertile couples and has been widely used all over the world for a long time. In cases caused by infertility, infection, clogging of the tubes, poor sperm quality, age problems and weight, it is easier for couples to have a baby through IVF method.
In our country, IVF treatment is among the health services that can receive government support. As stated in Article 63 of Law No. 4410, there is a decision to finance reproductive treatments.
In our IVF Clinic, we offer support at every stage with our expert staff on the way to the dreams of couples, accompanied by psychiatrists, psychologists, physiotherapists and dietitians, within the scope of “Holistic Approach”. You can find answers to all your questions about the IVF method below, or you can get detailed information by contacting us.
What is Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)?
Microinjection is an in vitro fertilization method in which fertilization is achieved by injecting the sperm cell into the egg.
What is IVF / In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)? why?
Unlike microinjection, sperms are deposited around a certain number of eggs and one of the sperm enters the egg spontaneously.
What are the stages of IVF treatment?
It consists of stimulation of the ovaries, collection of eggs, fertilization of eggs with sperm and transplantation of fertilized eggs (embryo transfer).
When should IVF treatment be decided?
Before deciding on IVF treatment, the cause of infertility should be investigated. Female age and male factor, duration of infertility and previous treatments are important in the decision of IVF treatment. IVF treatment is started for those who do not have the chance to be treated with surgery or medication. For example, couples with very low sperm count, clogged tubes and decreased egg reserves should start IVF treatment without waiting.
What is done if the sperm count is very low or there is no sperm in the sperm analysis?
If the sperm count is low, microinjection can be done. In cases where there is no sperm in the semen, it is necessary to surgically search for sperm in the testis.
Is IVF treatment the first treatment in infertility?
IVF treatment is not always the first choice for those with infertility problems. The first option is medical treatment and, if appropriate, surgical treatment. However, in cases where there is no other treatment option, such as azoospermia (very low sperm count), or completely closed tubes, in vitro fertilization may be the first treatment option.
What is pre-pregnancy genetic diagnosis (preimplantation genetic diagnosis pgt)?
In cases where a healthy pregnancy cannot be obtained due to a genetic problem in one or both of the couples, babies without genetic problems can be obtained by performing a genetic diagnosis test (PGT) before implantation and transferring only healthy embryos in order not to encounter genetic problems in the embryo. It is possible to select healthy embryos with Pgt.
Will every egg be fertilized?
Eggs must be mature and structurally normal for fertilization. Not all eggs are suitable for fertilization. Not every fertilized egg turns into a healthy embryo.
How long does the egg retrieval process (OPU) take?
How long the opu process will take is related to the number of follicles in the ovaries. But it can be said that it takes an average of 15-30 minutes. We recommend that you devote a minimum of 3 hours to this procedure, taking into account the preparations before the procedure and the rest period after the procedure.
How long does the egg collection process take?
It takes between 5-15 minutes, depending on the number of eggs to be collected. Since it is a procedure performed with general anesthesia, the patient has a recovery period of 20-30 minutes afterward.
How will I feel after egg retrieval?
There may be drowsiness due to the effect of anesthetic drugs. There may also be a feeling of discomfort in the abdomen. If you feel well enough, you can return to work the next day.
How are embryos placed in the uterus after the eggs are fertilized?
Embryo transfer is a simple procedure. It is inserted into the uterus under ultrasound guidance with a thin plastic catheter through the cervix.
Is pain felt during embryo transfer?
Speculum insertion is the most painful procedure during embryo transfer. In almost all women, a speculum can be inserted without any pain. The second painful procedure occurs during the passage of the catheter through the cervix. Since the cervical opening is wider than the catheter, there is no pain again. However, there may be little pain with the use of a rigid catheter when the uterus is severely turned forward or backward.
Should I rest after the transfer?
The benefit of rest has not been shown. We recommend continuing a normal life.
-You can lie down in a comfortable position on a bed or sit in a chair. It is enough to rest for a day or two, except for toilet and similar situations. If you live outside the city, we recommend that you take a day off before you set off.
When will the person return to their normal activities after the transfer?
He can return to normal activities other than sexual life and sports immediately after the transfer.
Does it affect a person’s sex life?
We do not recommend intercourse until the day of the pregnancy test, but this is not a proven practice.
Will there be any embryos left after the transfer? If so, what to do with them?
High-quality embryos left over after transfer can be frozen and stored.
How is embryo selection done? How can multiple pregnancy be prevented?
Healthy embryos are selected for fresh transfer. Depending on the woman’s age, 1-2 embryos are placed in the uterus.
Is there a greater chance of multiple pregnancy in IVF treatment?
If a single embryo transfer is made in IVF treatment, the risk of multiple pregnancy is as much as spontaneously identical twins. If more than one embryo is transferred, the risk of multiple pregnancy increases.
How many times can IVF be done?
There are no known limitations. In the first 3 attempts, the total probability of pregnancy increases to 60-70%. After the third attempt, pregnancy rates do not exceed 10% and the chance of success decreases.
How many times can vaccination be done?
There is no specific limitation for vaccination for those who meet the conditions. However, if success is not achieved in 2-3 attempts, it is necessary not to repeat the vaccination and to switch to in vitro fertilization treatment.
Is the ovarian reserve depleted as a result of these treatments?
Stimulation of the ovaries for IVF does not reduce the reserve.
How soon can a couple who cannot get pregnant in the first IVF procedure try IVF again?
There is no limitation for this. Even the next month, if the conditions are suitable, it can be applied again.
-It is enough to take a break of 1 month for the second attempt. There is no difference between the success of the treatment between taking a longer break and taking a shorter break. What is important is the psychology and financial situation of the couple. For couples who feel ready, the trials can be repeated without a long break. Although the chance of pregnancy remains the same for the first three attempts, this rate decreases afterward.
Can a man’s sperm count be increased by using drugs?
It may be possible to increase the sperm count with hormone therapy with conditions related to hormonal disorders.
What are the risks that may occur during the IVF procedure?
The most important risks are multiple pregnancy and hyperstimulation syndrome.
Are the pregnancies of people who become pregnant with IVF more risky than normal pregnant women?
A woman who has conceived with IVF has a higher risk of preterm delivery and having a low-birth-weight baby. In addition, in some special cases (such as the male being azoospermic), there is a slight increase in genetic abnormalities.
Apart from these, in case of multiple pregnancies, especially twin pregnancies, women become open to all the complications brought about by such pregnancies. The most important and risky period for these pregnancies is the first 3 months of pregnancy. Especially during this period, close follow-up is required.
Is it necessary to stay in hospital during IVF treatment?
No hospitalization is required at any stage of the procedure.
How long does it take to treat the test-tube baby?
It takes about 15 days from the beginning of the treatment to the day of the pregnancy test.
Are there any side effects of drugs used in IVF treatment?
As with all drugs, IVF drugs also have side effects. The most important side effect is the development of OHSS syndrome. It is mostly seen in patients with pcos. In those with OHSS risk, this problem is largely eliminated by using the drug dose as little as possible and by freezing all embryos and transferring frozen embryos.
What are the chances of success in IVF procedure? (You have age samples?)
Success depends on the woman’s age and embryo quality. Pregnancy rates under the age of 30 exceed 50%, but after the age of 40, it drops to 10-15%.
What are the factors affecting the success of IVF procedure?
Female age, male factor, embryo quality, endometrium (inner layer of the uterus) integrity affect success.
If both couples do not have a medical problem, but pregnancy cannot be achieved, what is the procedure?
If there is no pregnancy with IVF, a detailed research (such as genetic examination, detailed evaluation of the uterus…) should be done. If there is a reason to prevent pregnancy, it should be treated. However, there is often no obvious cause.
What are the factors that negatively affect the success of IVF treatment?
Advanced female age, removal of sperm from the testis, problems such as adhesions, fibroids or polyps that will prevent embryos from adhering to the uterus, clogged tubes and full of water affect the success of in vitro fertilization negatively.
Is there a difference between babies born from pregnancies obtained through IVF applications and babies born normally?
There is no difference. In cases where only the sperm taken from the testicles are used for fertilization, there may be an increase in some anomalies, albeit a little.
.
What does ovulation induction mean?
In IVF treatment, we need more than one follicle to increase the possibility of healthy embryos. The treatment by stimulating the eggs to obtain a large number of follicles is called ovulation induction.
